November 28

1. Today in class, we will be creating Charter of Rights and Freedoms scenarios/questions to use at Learning Conferences next week.  We will collect them using Google Forms.  You will find space to create 5 questions/scenarios - please make sure you write one using your Charter Champion.  Other questions can be generic scenarios created by you.

Example using my Charter Champion, Buffy Sainte-Marie:

Scenario / Question:

Singer-songwriter Buffy Sainte-Marie is well-known for her song, 'Universal Soldier'.  This song was critical of the Vietnam War and was banned from being played on many US radio stations.  If this were to happen today in Canada, which section of the Charter would help protect Ms. Sainte-Marie's Freedom of Expression?

Answer:

????

2. When you have completed this, please take a look at this website and read about:

  • Gradual Civilization Act (1857)
  • Gradual Enfranchisement Act (1869)
Make notes that answer:
    • What were the goals of each of these pieces of legislation?
    • How successful were they in achieving these goals?
    • What legislation were these acts replaced by in 1876?
